PTO Start of School Information plus Dues Drive!

Updated: Oct 13, 2020

Greetings Franklin Families,

On behalf of the Franklin PTO, we would like to warmly welcome all new and returning families to the 2020-2021 school year!  We hope you are excited about this upcoming year at Franklin and have had a good start to orientation!  The PTO Board would like to update you on some important information for this year.

The goals of the Franklin PTO are to build community at Franklin, support relationships between families and educators, promote communication within our school community, and raise funds to be used to enhance our children’s school experiences.  In order for the PTO to be effective, we need your participation!  Did you know that as a parent or guardian of a student at Franklin you are automatically a member of the PTO? The beginning of the school year is a great time to think about what each of us can do to help our children, their teachers, and the Franklin community build an even more enriching, nurturing, and welcoming environment for everyone.

Also, please join us in welcoming Franklin parents Jessica Allen, Allison Avisror, Julie Conlon, Anya Huston, and Nancy Maida to the PTO Board.  They all have contributed to the school in many different volunteer capacities like being co-chair of the book fair, part of the Halloween Bash committee, and helping to organize our biggest fundraiser of the year, our Franklin Auction.  Tamara Wieder, our new DLA liaison, is also officially part of the board because we know it is so important to make sure that Franklin's DLA families are represented and have a strong voice in our decisions.  We are so happy to welcome them to the PTO board!  We would like to extend a big thank you to Dawn Dill, who resigned from the board this year, for her many contributions!  We are thrilled that former co-presidents, Amy Horsman, Megan Reilly, and Claudia Rossi will continue with us on the board.  Amy Horsman will be our treasurer and Kelly Schultz will be our secretary for the second year in a row!

We would also like to say a huge THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS to Maura Morse.  She was an amazing PTO co-president for the last two years, and is now the new Assistant Principal of the Distance Learning Academy (DLA)!  Because of this new role, she can no longer be part of the PTO Board because it's a conflict of interest (she promised to keep volunteering as a parent!).  We are so excited for her in this new role, and we know that she will be a tremendous asset to the DLA and do incredible things!  Our Franklin DLA families are in great hands with her in this new leadership position.

Here are some important dates:

  • Thursday, September 17: First day for Cohort A in person at Franklin

  • Friday, September 18: First day for Cohort B in person at Franklin

  • Monday, September 21: First week of K-2 in person at Franklin. Grades 3-5 are virtual.

  • Monday, September 28:  No School - Yom Kippur

  • Tuesday, September 29:  First week of grades 3-5 in person at Franklin

Be on the lookout for some great fall events, like Virtual Trivia Night! The one we held in the spring was so fun and we are just finalizing the date with our trivia hosts - hopefully in October! We are reimagining what our Franklin Traditions such as Halloween Bash and Mystery Dinner could change into for this year, plus we are planning some new fun smaller events that will be really exciting for our community. We know this year will be different, but we promise to make this a fun (and safe!) year!

We will also be launching our annual Dues Drive soon, but you can contribute now at Franklin Dues Drive.  The dues we collect support vital programs at Franklin such as Creative Arts Sciences, Staff Mini Grants, FORJ, and the library fund.

Finally, please be on the lookout for an email regarding further volunteer opportunities for the 2020-2021 school year.  There are many opportunities for families to participate and help, and we thank you in advance for your time and energy in making the Franklin community enriching and fun for everyone.

Don’t forget to follow the Franklin School PTO on Facebook (FranklinPTO) for up-to-date information!

We are looking forward to another great year.  See you soon!
